Endings and Beginnings

Endings and beginnings, they go hand in hand

Endings! Why do we hate them so much? Are we afraid of the unknown? Do we feel safer where we are? Is it too painful?

I would like to reframe everybody’s thinking about endings being bad and really difficult, something that we never ever want. To me endings are a good thing. They allow something new to come into our lives.

I know it is very easy to get into our comfort zone and stay there. We feel safe but how can we get something better. I’ve been there, when it feels like we don’t want something to end, even if it is good for us.

We are looking for some sort of ending. Hoping to get unstuck. It’s not necessarily bad to have an ending. We can’t start a new job or a new beginning without one ending.

Here we are; we have a job that we really don’t like that much, but we like the money or the people we work with. We don’t know how to get out of that rut or what to do next. Will we get another opportunity quickly? Will it be a good fit? It can be scary. But there might be a better paying job just around the corner.

We generally don't have time for two jobs. I know there are some people with multi jobs or have a side gig. But if you are going to have a job, it is difficult for a new one with a much better opportunity for you, to come in. Juggling many things can stress you out as well.

Another example of endings which allow a new beginning is with relationships.

Obviously they can be very emotional when there is an ending. We feel guilt or blame or anger. There is uncertainty. However, there could be someone who is a much better fit waiting for you.

If you want Mr. Wonderful to come in and to be there, then you will have to say goodbye to Mr. Just Ok.

So why do we need endings? Is change good?

It really is true, how do we go onto something new, how do we go out of our comfort zone, if we don’t have an ending or don’t stop doing something or don’t stop continuing to do these habits that we normally do?

So endings, to me, are a good thing.

They're showing us there is something else out there for us. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel when we get the ending because it is a chance to start again.

When I do a Tarot Reading and I pull out a couple of cards, especially the Death card. There usually is a big reaction. However, this card is more a symbol of change.

The death card is representing something that is ending or coming to a close with a major life experience.

To me the Death card isn’t always about a final death. This card is about letting things go and moving on. Getting past the emotions of being attached to things. The death card really is a move on and get to something better card. The other cards you draw with it obviously will tell you more about the situation.

Now anyone familiar with Tarot knows that the Three of Swords is one that I would be more concerned about for endings.

The three of swords is actually a painful death or ending. There are three swords going right into the heart. This is something more difficult to recover from. It is emotional and could represent divorce depending on what other cards are with it. This one is more painful and difficult to get up from.

So, to me that is what endings are about. Closing things up, saying goodbye.

Maybe we need to grieve depending on what type of ending it is; that’s a different story.

But having an ending, having a conclusion, then allows for something better to come in and to allow us to bring the sunshine into our life as well.
